More Than a Baby: An Advent Devotional

Do you feel like the holiday season is often a mad rush of baking, shopping and running around?

If you're ready to try setting a different tone for your holiday, I've written this Advent devotional for you. So many times, we gloss over Advent, not letting God use this time in our lives as He intended it to be used--to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus.

What to Expect in More Than A Baby

More Than A Baby is a 73-page booklet in PDF form for immediate download that you can use each day of Advent. This year Advent begins on Sunday, November 27 and runs through December 24, Christmas Eve. Each day's devotional is set up in the following format.

Scripture reading. I include the full scripture in the booklet, rather than just listing the verses to be read. Of course you can open up your own Bible and read directly from God's word if you prefer.

Picture. This year I've added photos or beautiful copies of art work to reflect upon that match the topic of the day. You'll love what these add to the day's devotion.

Worship. While we're used to hearing Christmas music all during Advent, most people don't realize that Advent music is different than Christmas music. I've included beautiful Advent songs that you can use for worship throughout this time of preparation. On each day I list one of the songs and provide a link to actually listen to it online. In most cases, I've also found wonderful YouTube videos of the songs, and I include those links too. You'll be blessed by these Advent songs as you prepare for Christmas.

Focus. After the day's reading, I include a focus to direct our thoughts throughout the day.

Prayer. Each day I include a short prayer to wrap up the day's devotion and help us set our minds and hearts on our focus for the day.

O Antiphons. The O Antiphons were written in the 7th or 8th century and were traditionally sung each evening from December 17 through December 23. I've included both the Latin and English versions of the Antiphons at the end of the booklet for your use as an additional devotional.

Each day's devotion should only take about 10 to 15 minutes. It's long enough to help prepare you for Christmas, but short enough so that you can still use a regular Bible study at the same time if you'd like to.
